NEWS3 – WIU-TV Ch. 3

Western Illinois University‘s NEWS3 University Television is the creative talent that brings University performances, commencement, public affairs programming and much more to life on WIU-TV Channel 3, the Internet and other venues.

NEWS3 is the student news organization advised by News Coordinator Jasmine Crighton. NEWS3 staff produces, directs, anchors and reports for three weekly shows a semester, in addition to special programming that is created on a semester-by-semester basis.

The award-winning Live at 4 is one of those student-produced newscasts. The show airs live every semester twice a week on local channel 3 and on NEWS3‘s YouTube channel. The 30-minute newscast has won several awards, including Best Newscast, Best Light News and Best Serious News from the Mid-America chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS). NEWS3 has also won several awards from the Illinois News Broadcasters Association for Outstanding Television Newscast and Outstanding Hard TV News Program. Additionally, the Intercollegiate Broadcasting Society has recognized NEWS3 for multiple awards.

An additional show, Good Morning Macomb, highlights entertainment news and live interviews with notable people in the community. GMM airs for 30 minutes once a week, and is coordinated by juniors and seniors with news producing experience and is staffed by many student volunteers. Good Morning Macomb has taken first and second place for Outstanding Soft Television Program from the INBA.

In addition to the newscasts, many students have been recognized individually for their work, both in front of the camera and behind. Several have received a Student Television Award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Mid-America chapter.
