Fourth of July Independence Day Celebration

July 4 @ 5:00 pm - 10:00 pm

The City of Macomb and Western Illinois University have announced that final plans are in place for the annual Independence Day Celebration to be held Saturday, July 4, 2020. The Fireworks display will take place on Vince Grady Field, and the community can enjoy the display by watching from Q-Lot on the Western Illinois University Campus. Q-lot is located on University Drive on the east side of Western Hall. Gates will open at 8:00 PM and the fireworks display will begin at approximately 9:00 PM.

Due to the global pandemic, all activities that would have typically taken place in “Q-lot” have been cancelled. These included the Macomb Municipal Band and The King Graffiti Band from Macomb. Folks attending the Fireworks Display may park in Q-lot, but must allow one parking space between each vehicle and follow all CDC social distancing guidelines ( You may bring lawn chairs and enjoy the fireworks outside of your vehicle by utilizing the empty parking spot to the West, closest to/toward Western Hall. Due to the pandemic, public restrooms will not be available.

“Plans for the Independence Day celebration were revised this year to allow for everyone to safely enjoy the fireworks while following proper social distancing guidelines,” Mayor Mike Inman said. “We are grateful for the partnership we have with Western Illinois University and appreciative of the use of their facilities in making this a safe and successful event,” added Mayor Inman.

In the event of rain, the fireworks display will take place on July 5th at the same time and location. More information can be found at Facebook\downtownmacomb or at
